Bruce Branson, Associate Director of the ERM Initiative at NC State University interviews Beverley Harrington Leacock, Director of ERM at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) about how she helped her organization get their ERM process underway. Beverley emphasizes that an ERM process is an evolution not a one-and-done project. She highlights a number of successes at BCBSNC that have allowed the ERM process to gain traction and visibility. A recent restructuring has placed ERM within the finance function (moved from audit) and Beverley says that this move has enabled ERM to play a much more significant role in strategy development. Beverley also states that risk discussions are now a natural part of the discussions surrounding new initiatives. Finally, Beverley offers some advice to organizations just getting started with ERM.
