Insights about the Role of a Chief Risk Officer

Don Pagach, Director of Research for the ERM Initiative at NC State University, interviews Keith Butler, Duke Energy, about his responsibilities as the company’s Chief Risk Officer.  Keith shares insights about how his prior roles and experiences within the company prepared him for leading the risk management function.  He describes the nature of the chief risk officer’s role and reporting responsibilities, including interactions with the board of directors. Keith also shares his thoughts about why other organizations may benefit from having an executive help guide the organization’s culture and approach towards risk management.
